Polyurethane Tyre Wheels
Castor Wheels with a Polyurethane Tyre are one of the most popular choice of wheel for casters. The polyurethane is softer than a hard treads like Nylon or Cast Iron while still offering great load ratings and low rolling resistance.Polyurethane tyres are available with Nylon, Aluminium and Cast Iron Centres.
... The softer tyre means it is more elastic and not only will it not damage or mark most flooring,. Furthermore, it can absorb rolling vibrations from the floor which reduces noise and increases user comfort.
Being harder than a soft tread like Rubber, a polyurethane tyre is more resistant to compression and has a lower rolling resistance. Rolling resistance is the force required to keep the wheel in motion at a constant speed when under load.
In heavy duty applications, polyurethane is hard wearing with more abrasion and tear resistance than rubber tyre castor wheels offering 10 times the useful life.
As an alterative to Cast Iron, polyurethane can offer similar load capacity. The added benefit is that they are more gentle on floors. Though the tyre will wear more quickly than Cast Iron, on larger sizes, bonded polyurethane wheels can be retyred. This is generally at a lower cost than the buying a new wheel. Read More
