Swivel Castors and wheels can swivel 360 degrees about the vertical axis (see figure below). They consist of a housing and a caster wheel. The housing itself is made up of a plate fitting, swivel bearings and a yoke. The Yoke is often referred to as the castor's frame (see figure below).
The plate fitting determines how the... castor is going to be attached to the equipment. It is usually either a single bolt hole fitting or a plate fixing which is generally square, rectangular or triangular. Plate fittings are usually bolted to equipment so knowing your required bolt hole centres is important. The Swivel Head consists of a ball race and a number of ball bearings that roll within it. Swivel Castors can either have a single ball race or a double ball race. They perform the same function. The double ball race was developed for medium and heavy applications. This is because they are compact, perform well under static and dynamic loads and provide excellent steerability.
Swivel castors can be fitting with locks which lock (brake) wither the wheel or the swivel head or both. See Brake Castors.
Swivel Castor Components
Swivel Castor Offset
The Swivel Castor's offset it the distance from the swivel axis to the centre of the wheel (where it is secured to the castor frame). It is the reason a swivel castor will go in the direction you want it to go regardless its starting direction. The offset and castor wheel's diameter make up the swivel radius where the swivel radius = Offset + (Wheel Diameter / 2).
This is the radius of circle described but the outer dimension of the wheel swivelling around the vertical axis. Basically, this is important because it tells you how much room is needed for the swivel caster to swivel. Furthermore, the general rule is the bigger the offset the better the castor's running performance but the lower the weight it can carry.Read More

Load Capacity = 250kgNylon is a high quality, low maintenance, impact resistant wheel that has a high load capacity. The nylon material is extremely resistant to salts, greases, acids and alkalis and will not mark or damage concrete floors. This makes Nylon probably the most popular castor wheel material. The roller bearing in the hub (central part of the wheel) consists of steel rollers within an impact resistant plastic cage. These rollers rotate between the axle tube and the wheel hub which reduces the rolling resistance making it easy to move even under heavy loads. Roller bearings are rugged, robust and largely maintenance-free.

The frame is aluminium. The parts have powder coated and zinc plated for protection. The shock absorbing functions means that the overall height can vary by 10mm. The castor's height without load is 115mm and this reduces incrementally by up to 10mm as the load increases providing up t0 10mm of compression for a fine shock absorbing function.

125mm White Nylon Wheel with a ball bearing fit... Read Moreted into a pressed steel swivel castor bracket. The Swivel Bracket has a 4 hole top plate with 80x60mm bolt hole spacing. The load capacity of this castor is 200kg using manual propulsion at 4km/h (walking speed)
The Nylon Wheel is a hard wheel giving it a low tractive resistance which makes it it easier to get moving compared with softer rubber tread wheels. The strength of nylon and because it wont damage concrete floors makes it one of the most popular choices. The ball bearing lowers the rolling resistance to reduce the effort required to move the castors. Put this wheel into a strong bracket that has a double ball race in the swivel head makes this castor a great choice for the widest range of industrial and domestic applications.</p>

There is a hardened Taper Roller Bearing in he swivel head, which has a grease nipple, for smooth swivelling action and durability. The castor is unique because it has a self-aligned function enabled by two swivelling axes each with different swivelling radii so that the castor's offset can automatically alter when changing direction to optimise the castor's turning circle for the AGV. Specifically, the offset can range from 15mm to 35mm which reduces the castors 'swing' enabling it to better follow the designated path. The Top Plate is 145mm x 145mm and has 4 bolt holes that are spaced 120mm x 120mm, each with a 11mm hole diameter,This castor frame has two wheels with a Polyurethane tyre (Shore A 95) on an Aluminium centre each containing ball bearings, The polyurethane wheel has excellent elasticity the minimises slipping that can happen when an AGV starts or stops. In addition, the elasticity also absorbs small shocks arising from small imperfections in the floor. The wheel itself is non marking and will not damage the floor.

This foot pad has a Retractable Ratchet operation. This product's load capacity has been increased to 280kg Static Load and 140kg Dynamic Load.Because of the lifting and lowering function of the Foot Master castor, like all Jacking Castors, it is important understand that each castor may be subjected to HALF THE TOTAL WEIGHT. Therefore, the recommended load capacity for each Foot Master Levelling Castor is half the castor's Static Load Capacity, that is, when the castors' levelling function is not being used. The load capacity of the Footmaster Castor when it is being moved and positioned is given by the Dynamic Load Capacity. This levelling castor is a multi-functional swivel castor that provides mobility, levelling and anti-vibration functions. This allows users to move and position large equipment into place with added stability using the levelling and anti-vibration features.

We stock a complete range of swivel castors and their associate Fixed and Braked Castors (where available). Our ranges come with a wide variety of top plate sizes and fixing bolt hole centres.
The ranges include pressed steel, Stainless Steel and Fabricated or welded castor housings.
A castor’s size is usually referred to by the wheel’s diameter. The most common sizes are 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 80mm, 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 160mm, 200mm, 250mm and 300mm. These are the wheel sizes and because the swivel head sits above the caster wheel, the castor’s overall height will be somewhat larger than the wheel. We’ve had some customers purchase a 100mm Castor expecting it to be 100mm tall, it’s not, it’s usually around 128mm tall.
Each Swivel Castor can have a wide range of castor wheels. Nylon, Polypropylene, Rubber Tyre, Elastic Rubber Tyre, Polyurethane Tyres and Cast Iron Wheels are the most common.
